When you register a new device, Boot-Loader Download Manager checks whether you are eligible for free initial access. If yes, you will see a Get Free Access link on the My Account->Device Accounts page. Click it, and you will be given a certain download allowance for a fixed period of time, depending on the device terms of use.

Free initial access is connected to the device, and when you unregister and sell the device to another user while on free initial access, the remaining device allowance is transferred to the new owner.

When the free initial access period is over or if you use up all download allowance (whichever occurs first), you will need to top up your device account.

If you buy a used device, you will get less or no free initial access.
